These one-hour sessions are designed to help choirs elevate their singing to new levels of artistry. Morten Lauridsen will be shaping the performances of Valley choirs through insights on his own choral music. Come hear the voices

and learn valuable information on singing together, blend, phrasing, and much more!

Morten Lauridsen

Mr. Lauridsen ​shares insights on his compositional process from a 50-year career in choral writing. His musings will be exemplified through performance, as several talented singers will give a concert of his life's work throughout the event. You'll hear music from his song cycles A Winter Come, Cuatro Canciones, A Backyard Universe, and much more! Then, you'll have an opportunity to speak with the composer directly in a question & answer period.

"Shining Night": Documentary Screening

You are invited into the world of Morten Lauridsen in this stunning 75-minute documentary. See Waldron Island, Mr. Lauridsen's private retreat off the Washington coast, and gain insight into the composer's creative process, musical influences, and love of poetry. Then, hear testimony of how his music continues to impact the world at large. Mr. Lauridsen will host a Q & A and open dialogue following the screening. Come and go as you please!

The weekend's grand finale! 5 choirs, 250 voices, and a 28-piece chamber orchestra gather to perform some of the most well-known and beloved choral works of our day. With the composer in attendance, you will hear soaring melodies and deeply-woven beauty in the texture of this writing. The evening will conclude with a performance of Mr. Lauridsen's masterwork: Lux Aeterna. Don't miss it!
