Now in its third year, the Sing Phoenix! Choral Festival is dedicated to providing quality classical performance experiences to passionate singers of all ages and skill levels throughout Arizona. Each year, the festival highlights the music of prolific composers of our time, exploring works that are receiving critical acclaim in the choral world. The festival is accompanied by some of the finest instrumentalists in the state, which empowers Valley musicians to provide greater influence on the fine arts world in their own communities.
This year will honor the life and works of Morten Lauridsen, who will serve as festival clinician and Guest of Honor. Mr. Lauridsen will host a variety of musical events open to the public, culminating in a performance of his music on Saturday, October 20th, at 7:00, featuring five choirs, over 200 singers, and a 28-piece orchestra!
Morten Lauridsen was named an “American Choral Master” by the National Endowment for the Arts, and, in 2007, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts, the highest artistic award in the United States, by the President in a White House ceremony “for his composition of radiant works combining musical beauty, power, and spiritual depth.”
