United Church of Christ

Ministries

No matter your talent or interest, there's a place it can be used at Church of the Beatitudes. Browse our offerings or contact the Church office at 602.264.1221 to volunteer your time and talent.

Worship
Responsibilities of this ministry include coordinating the elements of worship including music, arts, ushers, acolytes, and lay liturgists as well as other rites of the Church such as weddings, baptisms and funerals. If you sing, love scripture,  or are interested in aspects of spirituality, your talents would be put to good use.

Service

Raising congregational awareness of mission, encouraging personal involvements, and enlisting active participation in Christian mission is the responsibility of this ministry. Outreach efforts of the Church include local mission projects, as well as national and worldwide mission efforts.

Education
Church of the Beatitudes works to provide Christian Education to all who yearn to grow in their faith. Church school is available to all children, preschool through 8th grade. Sunday times are below. Click on the calendar for dates and details of upcoming classes. Also, you may contact Dana Bender or call 602.264.1221.

Kid's Read Blog
Want to get your kids reading? Don't know where to start? We're pleased to offer a new feature on our web site called, Kids Read, a blog written by long time church member Cathy Bonnell.

Children's Education
We offer Sunday School classes for pre-school and elementary age children. The classes follow the same UCC lectionary as our adult worship service in a fun, easy-to-learn way. Crafts, music, and stories are all used to reinforce each week's lesson. Vacation Bible School or Arts Camp is offered each summer with worship and activities for pre-school through sixth grade.

Youth Education
Confirmation classes are offered to our 8th grade students during church school time (9:30 - 10:30 am Sunday morning) throughout the year. The confirmation process is a program to help our young people learn about the church and re-confirm the promise of their baptism. Teaching is by our pastoral team, lay leaders, trips to other denominations and learning about religions of the world.

Our mission for Senior High students is to help our youth identify their God-given talents and gifts and to encourage their Christian discipleship in the world. Discussions on the lessons, prayer, community service and service within the Church allow our young people to continue to grow in God's world. One of the highlights of the youth program is the annual week-long work camp. Activities have included serving in soup kitchens, rehabbing low-income housing, working with a no-kill animal shelter and building wheelchair ramps.

Adult Education
Members and friends are welcome at all adult education programs of Church of the Beatitudes. We offer opportunities that meet a variety of needs. Classes offered on a regular basis range from learning Spanish to Bible study, current events discussions, arts classes, gifts of the Spirit, book and movie discussions.

Nurture
T
he mission of the Ministry of Nurture is about hospitality and relationships through the welcoming and nurture of visitors and new members, caring for the physical, Womanemotional and spiritual needs of the congregation and providing fellowship. It is divided into three areas: Welcome, Care and Fellowship with a staff person overseeing each area.

Care

The mission of the Care Ministries is to promote wellness of body, mind and spirit through a system of outreach, education and experiences which promotes a feeling of belonging to the body of Christ. We are in the process of developing the following areas:

  • Emergency/Crisis Outreach Ministry Team
  • Visitation Ministry Team
In the next few months a Prayer Shawl Ministry will be active. If you are interested in becoming a part of this ministry of compassion and wellness, Pastor Deanne would love to hear from you.
