Pentecost 2008
Celebrate the many faces of Church of the Beatitudes during Pentecost on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11. On Saturday, attend a workshop on “A Church without Walls,” moderated by Rev. Dr. Bob Goss, enjoy a potluck of your family’s favorite dish, and attend worship.
Pentecost Sunday will be festive, beginning with breakfast with your family at 7:30 am, hosted by the men of the Church, followed by worship and a photo exhibit of the Many Faces of Church of the Beatitudes. Wear red on Sunday! We will shoot a group photo of everyone on Sunday. Be part of the photo exhibit by bringing a photo of your mother or your favorite family picture to the Church office by Tuesday, May 6 (or send electronically to info@beatitudeschurch.org). Rev. Dr. Robert Goss, Pastor/Theologian of MCC in the Valley (North Hollywood, CA)—a LGBTQIQF Church—will present a workshop, “A Church Without Walls” on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 3 pm in Nelson Hall. As part of our Pentecost weekend, this workshop will look at 21st century, post-modern church without walls, based on the economy of God’s grace found in Jesus’ practice of table fellowship.
Imagine a church far more diverse than you could ever dream. What could a justice-doing, contemplative church—committed to peacemaking, radical inclusion, hospitality, and compassionate care—look like? How do we deal with postmodern, hybrid spiritualities within church? What unites us as a church without walls? Please RSVP for the workshop at 602-264-1221 or info@beatitudeschurch.org. He received his doctorate from Harvard University in Comparative Religion and Christian Theology—with a specialization in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. He self-identifies as a Buddhist Christian. In addition to full time pastoring, Dr. Goss teaches part time at Claremont School of Theology and California State University, Northridge.
